It isn’t often that a billboard in one small town attracts international attention. Yet a public service outdoor advertising campaign for Whitley Law Firm of New Bern, designed by High Tide Creative, a North Carolina advertising agency specializing in building brand identities, has earned a prestigious silver award from Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication.
High Tide’s billboard concept was a collaboration between Creative Director, Tom Lewis and Copywriter, Todd Sturgell. The outdoor campaign on the dangers of texting and driving is highlighted in the Graphis 2015 Advertising Annual as an example of some of the best talent in design, advertising, and photography in the world. Of the nearly 279 awards in the United States, the message from Whitley Law Firm and High Tide Creative was the only one in North Carolina to be selected for honors.
High Tide’s Creative Director, Tom Lewis, envisioned an image that would immediately create a buzz.
“Since many law firms produce advertising with photos of their legal team, we decided to go in a much different direction for the Whitley Law Firm. The result was a public service campaign centered on the crucial issue of texting and driving.”
“We heard that as soon as the billboards went up, the straight-to-the-point message prompted family discussions and helped the ad fulfill its true purpose: to remind everyone that texting while driving carries serious consequences,” said Whit Whitley, partner at Whitley Law Firm. “We’re proud of what High Tide Creative accomplished and we hope that the message will continue to gain momentum.“
The Whitley anti-texting outdoor campaigned also earned silver for the Summit International Awards in May of 2014.
